Butterfly Gardens and Golden Waterfront Light with Julie and Jake
Meet Julie and Jake and welcome to their Quiet Waters Park engagement session! I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Julie since 2017, and I was so honored when she asked me to be her wedding photographer for her wedding later this year. Spending the afternoon with her and Jake was such a fabulous way to catch up and see how much of a perfect match they are for each other.
Why Quiet Waters Park for an Engagement Session
Their engagement session took us through two very different sides of Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. We started in the butterfly garden which is lush and quiet. There are lovely trees that line a walking path, and a pond with a footbridge running through it. This area is great for slower, more intimate portraits. From there, we ended on the waterfront right at sunset for the most incredible golden light. The river gives you wide, uninterrupted views of sunset and we timed the second half of the session to catch the light right as it started to turn gold over the water.
Details and a favorite moment from this session
Julie and Jake wore two formal looks, which is now officially one of my favorite ways to do an outfit change. Julie started in a solid powder blue dress for the garden portion, then changed into a white dress with blue floral print for the waterfront. Both of their looks were polished and romantic, and the color shift matched the mood of each location perfectly.
A surprise detail that made this session extra special – Julie and Jake brought their dog and cat to the session! Bringing a cat to an outdoor session was a first for me, it’s not something most couples would attempt, but it worked so wonderfully (good kitty!) and it made the whole session feel like a real look into their life.
Julie and Jake’s wedding is in October and I cannot wait to be back with them. If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day is going to be full of the same easy, genuine energy.
