Sailboats, Sandy Shores, and Island Vibes with Katie and Dave
Meet Katie and Dave, and welcome to their Gibson Island engagement session! Katie and Dave are getting married on Gibson Island this September, so we spent a summer evening there ahead of the big day. Gibson Island is a private residential island in Maryland, and access is limited to residents and their guests. I have been lucky enough to visit before (and attended a wedding there!), so it was a treat to be back and see the island through Katie and Dave’s eyes as their wedding day gets closer. As a Baltimore Wedding Photographer, getting to walk a location like this with a couple ahead of their wedding day is one of my favorite parts of the job.
Why Gibson Island for an Engagement Session
Gibson Island gave us so much to work with in one evening, from the water views at the boat house to the open beach at The Point. Since Katie and Dave’s wedding is happening there this September, it was a perfect chance to get a feel for the setting and how gorgeous the island is.
We started at the boat house, using the docks and a row of sailboats as our background. It gave us a beautiful, nautical feel, absolutely iconic for Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. From there we made our way to The Point, a sandy stretch of beach on the island where Katie and Dave kicked off their shoes for some barefoot photos right at the water’s edge.
Details and a Favorite Moment from this Session
Katie and Dave kept it light and wore the same outfit for the entire session. Katie wore a white sundress that felt effortless against both the boat house and the beach, exactly right for a summer evening on the water.
A detail that made this session especially meaningful: Katie and Dave used to live in Hawaii together, so leaning into the beach and island setting was a quiet nod to that chapter in their story. Watching them walk barefoot along the beach, the sailboats behind them and the bay stretched out in front, it was easy to see why this island means so much to them.
Katie and Dave’s wedding is this September, right back on Gibson Island and I cannot wait to be there with them. Their engagement session gave me a preview of their amazing personalities, the golden light and water views we will get to work with on their wedding day, and I am SO looking forward to it.
