Sarah & Matt’s September Celebration
Rain or shine, welcome to Sarah & Matt’s September wedding that unfolded at the Golf Club at South River in Maryland! As a wedding photographer, I have the privilege of seeing all things pretty every weekend. However, I have to say, there is nothing quite like the beauty that came from Sarah & Matt’s wedding day. There is so much to share from this garden party inspired wedding, complete with a pink color palette and florals that were simply stunning. Being based on the East Coast, I’m acutely aware of the fact that the weather won’t always go the way you hope it will. Any yet, to our surprise, the one unplanned detail that the day had in store for us was a tropical storm! But let me tell you, it just added a whole new level of adventure to the day!
Sarah and Matt’s September wedding at the Golf Club at South River was joyful from the first look to the last dance. A tropical storm rolled in, but they embraced it, turning the day into something even more memorable. As a Baltimore wedding photographer, I love when a couple stays present and lets the weather add a little magic.
Sarah and her bridesmaids began their day nestled in the comfort of Sarah’s parents’ home. This was a choice Sarah specifically made because getting ready in her childhood bedroom held more meaning for her than any venue’s getting ready space could offer. Sarah & Matt invested in full day wedding photography coverage and because of that, I had the privilege of being able to be there in these moment and was able to capture the scene. Her best girlfriends, her parents, and even her dogs were all gathered around her. They were getting ready together, and the sound of their laughter throughout the house was incredibly heartwarming.
Matt and his groomsmen got ready over at the venue, in the grooms lounge, embracing the storm like it was just another guest at the party. The camaraderie and positive energy was real, my friends.
Why Choose the Golf Club at South River for Your Wedding
Set in Edgewater, Maryland, just minutes from Annapolis, the Golf Club at South River blends lush grounds with a modern clubhouse, giving couples a pretty mix of garden views and clean interiors. It works well for gatherings around 50 to 120 guests and offers multiple settings on property for a seamless flow.
What couples love most is the balance of comfort and style. You get manicured gardens for portraits and a Great Room that feels polished once the candles are lit and the room fills with friends and family. From a photography perspective, I appreciate the variety: greenery for soft, romantic light outside and structured lines inside for crisp editorial frames.
Ceremony and Style
The ceremony took place right in the heart of the Golf Club’s meticulously manicured gardens. Yes, you heard it right, despite the tropical storm, they decided to go for an outdoor ceremony! The raindrops, the greenery, and their vows created a scene that felt intimate and cinematic. Their garden-party palette of pinks and full floral moments looked timeless against the landscape and photographed with a soft, fresh glow.
After promising to love and cherish each other and sealing it with a kiss, everyone moved the celebrations inside. Signature cocktails poured at the bar, guests were jumping at their chance to take a photo with the flower wall and The Golf Club’s grounds became this magical rain-kissed backdrop to it all.
Reception Highlights
The party kicked off in Golf Club at South River’s Great Room, where their details and decor shined! It was like stepping straight into Sarah’s end-of-summer-garden-party dreams! Tables were full with flowers, pink goblets, and all statement centerpieces. The dance floor stayed full, toasts brought happy tears, and the bubble grand exit wrapped the night with energy. The room photographs beautifully once guests are in motion and the uplighting is spectacular.
Sarah and Matt’s Golf Club at South River wedding was one for the books. Rain, wind or tropical storm, nothing could dampen the spirit of this celebration. It was a love-filled, rain-kissed wedding that will be talked about for years. Cheers to Sarah and Matt, the unstoppable duo who proved that a little rain can’t stop a whole lot of love! ☔
Wedding Photography Highlights
From a photography standpoint, the day offered everything I love: real emotion, design details, and a couple willing to lean into the moment. The gardens gave us soft, flattering light for portraits, and the clubhouse interiors added structure for those editorial wider frames. Credit to the vendor team for keeping the day running smoothly and to the venue staff for the easy transition inside.
