A spring celebration in the heart of Washington D.C.

NICOLA & ANDREW | MAY 2024

You’ve seen their engagement session, and now it is time for you to see their Eastern Market wedding! Welcome in Nicola & Andrew’s wedding day! The 2024 wedding season kicked off with a burst of colors and blooming flowers, from Nicola’s pink ombré wedding dress, to the plant life incorporated into their ceremony space, their wedding day (& their love) is one of a kind. Their D.C. wedding in May was not just beautiful, but also memorable, thanks to their thoughtful and colorful details. These elements truly set the stage for a celebration that will undoubtedly be a lasting memory for all who attended. Just in case we haven’t met yet, allow me to introduce myself. I’m Haley Day, a DMV wedding photographer, and there’s nothing I love more than capturing a wedding day right in the heart of the city, especially during the vibrant spring season!

The day began in the heart of D.C. at a charming hotel and the most refreshing with a spring breeze. As a photographer, walking into the scene of Nicola’s couture ombre pink wedding dress was nothing short of a dream. Nicola and her bridesmaids were relaxed and enjoying their breakfast, hair & makeup finished, just waiting for the cue to get dressed, the kind of environment that makes for a calm morning of your wedding. In contrast to Andrew and his groomsmen, who really brought the energy while getting ready, the room was filled with commotion and laughter, sounds that speak of genuine friendships.

Nicola & Andrew decided to do a first look, something I recommend if you A) want to get the most of your your time with me B) want to enjoy your cocktail hour and 3) if you want to feel more relax and at ease on your day! They met at a nearby park, with the 3rd, four-legged-member of their family in tow, Rufus. If you’re the type of person who can’t imagine their wedding day without their dog, Nicola & Andrew are your kind of people. Rufus joined for the first look, dressed in a fresh haircut and a very handsome looking tuxedo and joined in on the first couple snaps of the Bride & Groom portraits.

Tip: If you want your pup to be a part of your day I highly recommend you hire an appointed person or a professional dog-sitting service. (Did you know there are companies with services solely for helping couples handle their dog on your wedding day?!) Having this additional help will make the logistics of including your pet a BREEZE.

The ceremony unfolded at D.C’s Eastern Market, a hidden gem that effortlessly blends rustic charm with metropolitan flair. The venue, draped in the vibrant hues of spring, welcomed guests into a space adorned with bright golden sunlight, lush green plants, and the promise of new beginnings. The ceremony echoed with vows of love, Latin readings from some of Nicola’s favorite works and as the newlyweds sealed their commitment with a kiss, the high ceilings reverberated with applause and joy.

With vows exchanged and hearts united, the celebration smoothly shifted outdoors onto Eastern Market’s patio. There, guests were able to greet the newlyweds and enjoy their signature cocktails. Following the refreshments, the reception unfolded, which was nothing short of delightful. The dance floor exuded a warmth that perfectly complemented the upcoming summer season. As the evening progressed, conversations flowed, laughter echoed, and the dance floor transformed into a stage for moments of unfiltered joy. Throughout the evening, many guests showcased their moves on the dance floor, while others could retreat outside. There, they could enjoy quieter conversation under the strung bistro lights, with the D.C. city streets and Eastern Market serving as their picturesque backdrop.

In the heart of Washington DC, among the blossoms and historic charm, Nicola and Andrew’s Eastern Market wedding became a day with love, laughter, and the promise of a beautiful future. Their spring celebration at Eastern Market will forever be etched in the memories of those fortunate enough to witness the beginning of this timeless love story.

I love working with couples like Nicola & Andrew, who have an incredibly deep love, wouldn’t dream of leaving their dog at home and have show stopping details!
